Casual Chic in the Suburbs-Legal’s C Bar , Legacy Place Dedham
consistently ranks as one of ’s favorite restaurants for both locals and visitors even while it reinvents itself. is Legal’s latest restaurant offering- a sleek, trendy restaurant/bar that showcases lots of innovative menu choices – along with several of Legal’s legendary classics. The compact, but varied wine list and some slick cocktails hit the mark as well.
C Bar’s all-day menu is all about clams, cod, crabs and calamari -mostly prepared with a modern spin. An oh-so-current white bean pesto dip comes to the table with bread for dipping while you decide what to order. The fried olives ($4.95) are stuffed with either dried sun-dried tomato or goat cheese- take a bite and it is a surprise which type you get. The grilled calamari ($9.95)on a bed of white beans with rapini drizzled with olive oil is another wonderful first course and full of flavor from the wood-fired grill. C Bar’s updated warm spinach dip ($6.95) is creamy and piquant with feta and served with grilled flatbread ($6.95). You’re going to have to ask for more bread to finish it!
This month Legal Seafoods is celebrating its 60th year in business; mainly on the reputation of its fresh-as- can-be seafood . At C Bar, suburban suits still order the fish and chips ($15.95) for Friday lunch and Legal’s clam chowder ($4.50 cup/$6.50 bowl) is (arguably) still the best in town. Legal’s devotees will be especially delighted with C Bar’s simply-grilled choices – there are regional favorites like Atlantic Salmon ($18.95) and Rainbow Trout($17.95), as well as steak tips ($16.95), shrimp ($17.95), scallops ($17.95) and more. Each simply grilled entree also comes with a choice of two sides. Tip: Definitely pick the sweet potato mashed as one of those choices!
C Bar’s setting is urban/hip – featuring lots of polished services and split levels- an upstairs cat-walk offers a great vantage point to watch the activity below. Request comfortable booth seating for deal-making or a night with friends. Or you can sit center stage at the bar and watch the chefs in the nearby open kitchen at work in what is Legal’s snazziest restaurant to date.
