Best of the week in Atlanta

Atlanta was home to  Martin Luther King Jr. and the King Center is located here. Many events are planned throughout this week, ending with the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, January 18. There will be a march and rally on the 18th. See the  website for details. On Thursday, Jan. 14, the Georgia capitol will celebrate with speeches and performances.461px-Martin_Luther_King_Jr_with_medallion_NYWTS

For kids – Imagine It – the Children’s Museum of Atlanta has partnered with Spelman College for the annual MLK Day Celebration, so join them for a special day of fun on January 18th. Imagine It’s  Curious George exhibit, a 20-minute mini-musical which invites children to get curious, ends January 24.

Shen Yun Performing Arts – Chinese dance and music at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre Jan. 15 – 17.

Ice Skating at Centennial Olympic Park (ends 1/31)

Atlanta History Center: For Scarlett: Costumes from Gone with the Wind (ends 1/31)

Wild Safari at Fernbank (ends 2/5)

Interesting theatre:

Sunday afternoon at Loehmans at Ansley Park Playhouse. (ends 1/31)

Tranced opens in Lawrenceville at Aurora Theatre. Jan 14 – Feb. 7. Written by award-winning playwright and psychologist Bob Clyman.

Good Boys and True at Actors Express; Jan 14 – Feb 13 Written by one of the writers from HBO’s “Big Love.”

Great food:

The Buckhead Life Restaurant Group is offering Good Life specials – from Lobster dinner at the Atlanta Fish Market for $29.95 to Nava’s Flavors of the Yucatan for $29.95. (Ends Jan. 31.)
