Attention Vegetarians and Friends
Vegetarians and vegetarian cuisine lovers out there, if you have not already been to one of three locations in , it is time for you to go now. I went there for lunch with my almost-fully vegetarian cousin whose favourite restaurant happens to be , and really enjoyed everything even though I am not a vegetarian myself. There is just so much to choose from on the menu that it can almost get overwhelming.
Fruit smoothies, protein shakes, vegetable juices, wheatgrass shakes, an espresso bar and much more are just on one side of the menu. Once you have figured out what you would like to drink, it’s off to the other side to choose what the verdict is for your meal. Salads, burgers (veggie of course), wraps, and fresh bowls all with many substitutions is what lies ahead.
There is a list of starters to choose from; we chose the avocado white bean dosas. Two Indian pancakes filled with white beans, chipotle avocado sauce, red onion, tomato and cilantro is what arrived at our table. It was somewhat small but a good portion for an appetizer. It left me wanting more.
always has two specials made daily to choose from, and they usually aren’t soups you have ever heard of, such as: Jamaican Spinach and Zucchini Puree with Ginger, or Moroccan Spiced Chickpea with Star Pasta, Red Lentils, & White Kidney Beans. I have tried the Carrot Puree with Coriander in the past that was rich and tasty. Someday I hope to try the Caribbean Coconut and Tomato with Hot Chilies & Green Cabbage soup; depending if I go to the right location on the right day when the soup is featured.
We skipped the soups and ordered a Warrior Fresh Bowl, which is chickpea and vegetable stew with a rich coconut curry sauce and grilled spinach on top. We got the choice of having this over brown basamati rice or soba noodles. We opted for the rice and shared the dish. This entrée is also available in a smaller size for those with small appetites. The Warrior entrée was full of flavour and I think I ate every last grain of rice. The coconut curry sauce is what really made the meal.
After finishing up our food, we ordered a couple of cappuccinos made with soymilk for desert, and I realized how they truly put a lot of effort into everything on their menu. These cappuccinos, even though made with soy, were aromatic and heavenly. For two cappuccinos, an appetizer and an entrée, our bill came to $27 after taxes for lunch. Fresh is by no means a cheap restaurant, but the overall experience is worth the money. The place is always packed for lunch and dinner making it a busy and popular spot with an upbeat atmosphere, and is appealing even to non-vegetarians.
