The Movie Museum
It took me long enough, but I finally made it to the Movie Museum in Kaimuki. For over five years I have heard much about the place — namely, that you can BYOB and that the chairs are super comfy — and I must say that both claims are true and that this is a great little date spot if you’re looking for a more intimate movie setting than the Regal Cinemas or Consolidated Theaters experience.
My “dates” happened to be my parents, and the movie was “The Hangover.” The Movie Museum has just 20 leather recliners and usually plays just one film per day (sometimes they alternate two in one day). They are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If you’re a member, you pay just $4 per movie experience; general admission is $5.
The Movie Museum tends to play both new and old movies and offer tribute films for actors celebrating their birthdays or for those who recently passed away. This month they are paying tribute to Brittany Murphy and John Hurt, along with some other well-known actors. Notable films this month are “The Hurt Locker” and the Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Language Film, “Departures.”
Download their full screening calendar via their website. If it’s a popular movie, you might want to call in for a reservation.
The Movie Museum doesn’t offer parking validation, so you might want to plan to arrive 15 minutes ahead of time to find free street parking. Enjoy!
