Should Old Acquaintances … Return to Disneyland
Hop aboard the time machine back to 1986. Pop-Icon, Michael Jackson was at the height of his career and in an incredible move, joined forces with Disney to create a 17-minute, 3-D film experience, Captain EO.
For those of you not old enough to remember when The King of Pop’s hit “Thriller” first burst on the scene, let me explain that this 3-D film, musical sensation was groundbreaking. The attraction was introduced to Disneyland park guests in 1986 and ran until 1997, then ran at Euro Disney, better known today as () in 1998.
Since Jackson’s untimely death, there has been a renewed interest in his musical career, and Disneyland Resort officials have announced that the Captain EO attraction will be returning to Disneyland park () for a limited run, beginning February 2010.
The musical Sci-Fi adventure was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and written in part by George Lucas. The story centers around the mission of Captain EO and his less than stellar crew who are sent to deliver a gift to a wicked alien queen.
To make room for the attraction in Tomorrowland, Honey I Shrunk the Audience will be temporarily closed. The return of Captain EO means a whole new audience will be introduced to the original 3-D production, while longtime fans will enjoy a trip down memory lane, as Jackson performs in this rare, big-screen performance.
This recent announcement has fans of the pop star clamoring to see this attraction. February should be a very exciting and busy time to visit in California.
