The Top 10 Spots to See Christmas Lights in Sydney
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, especially in the following Sydney neighbourhoods. If you’re looking for festive lights, you can’t do better than these spots around Sydney’s suburbs!
Churchill Street, Bardwell Park
There are more than 10 houses tizzied up, but the highlight is definitely number 4. This display has custom made decorations and more than 12, 500 lights! The residents get into the Christmas spirit every year by decorating not just their house, but those of three elderly neighbours. Get out of the car to appreciate all the beauty of this one.

Christmas Tree at Martin Place
Bega Place, Bossley Park
Number 3, number 6, and number 8 have pooled their Christmas resources for one massive festive bonanza. There’s an open garage where you can see snowmen, and plenty of illuminated figurines. The houses collect for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, so make sure you give generously.
Handel Avenue and Emert Parade, Emerton
Around 15 houses in this area embrace the season with some colorful lights displays. Emert parade residents have taken out the best street award in Blacktown Council’s annual competition in 2006 and 2007, while nearby Handel Street boasts five winners from last year’s comp. The residents entertain visitors with Christmas karaoke and hand out lollies to visiting children.
Edwin Street, Fairlight
Every year the street becomes a Christmas fairyland with almost every house in the street getting involved. The twinkling lights and decorations will delight young and old. The local children collect money for charity so make sure you visit with some spare coins.
Cumberland Road, Greystanes
It seems like the neighbours here all want to outdo one another with the biggest and brightest displays! That’s great news for Christmas nuts who can simply enjoy their efforts. While driving around Greystanes, it’s also worth calling by Camellia Street. Number 44 is a previous winner of Channel 7’s Christmas Lights comp.
Ross Avenue, Hazelbrook
There are plenty of beautiful displays here, but number 6 and number 10 are standouts. Lights and massive roof-top inflatables make this something special. I hear Santa might even drop by on Christmas Eve!
Sydney Road, Hornsby Heights
There’s so much to see here, with almost 50 houses putting on a show. There are giant candy canes, sparkling lights, and a healthy dose of Christmas cheer.
Matraville
I couldn’t single out just one street here because this entire eastern suburb is Christmas crazy! Drive down Barwon Park, Flanders Avenue, Knowles Street, and Gwydir to see the best of the bunch. And make sure you don’t miss 24 Franklin Street, with its proud replicas of Sydney Opera House, Centerpoint Tower, and the Harbour Bridge. It may not be very festive, but it’s super impressive!
Stephen Street, North Ryde
This is another happy street where almost every house gets in on the action. Time your visit close to Christmas and you might even see Santa Claus strolling down the street!
The CBD
When you’re looking for Christmas cheer, don’t forget Sydney’s city centre! Walk around The Rocks, Martin Place, Hyde Park, and Darling Harbour to see carolers, light projections, and beautiful Christmas trees and decorations.
