Australia’s Best Fish and Chips at Blue Fish

When enjoying a casual lunch with friends, there are few places more alluring than Darling Harbour. The view of the sparkling blue water always makes a meal taste that much better. As our friends don’t eat meat, we opted for lunch at Blue Fish. The restaurant boasts Australia’s best fish and chips, as voted by Lifestyle Food subscribers, so I was keen to see if it was true. bluefish

Our lunch companions were running a little late, but the staff were happy to seat us. We snacked on delicious garlic bread prepared on organic sourdough and sipped a few early drinks. We used the time to peruse the menu, which offered plenty for seafood lovers and a few choice meat selections. My husband’s not normally a seafood fan, but he couldn’t resist the prawn and salmon tortelli with its wasabi butter sauce. I stuck with the fish and chips, determined to see what the fuss was all about. Our friends quickly decided on fisherman’s baskets, and we were ready to order.

Service was quick, ideal considering we had tickets to a show after our meal. After one bite I understood why Blue Fish’s fish and chips has earned such praise. It was fall-apart fresh, covered in some of the lightest and crispiest batter I’ve ever tasted. The chips too were crunchy but not overdone, and delicious drizzled in lemon juice. My lunch companions were similarly enthusiastic about their meals, although the basket eaters struggled to finish!

Blue Fish has a relaxed energy and diverse menu, making it ideal for family lunches or a get-together with friends.
