Ginger Bar. Good Music and Cocktails in the Gothic Quarter
There are two establishments that you will find on every corner in Barcelona: bakeries and bars. With so many bars to choose from, a place really has to be good to catch my eye anymore.

How do I define ‘good’? Well, music is key. If the radio, TV, soccer game, or video poker machine is blasting in the background then I knock a few points off the bar. However, if the music is fresh, classic or eclectic, I give the bar a few ‘good’ points. Ginger, when I was there the other evening, had low-key tunes playing in the background, setting the mood but not making me scream to be heard.
I also like variety. Ginger offers cava, wine, beer and a decent list of cocktails for 6.50 Euros each (beer and wine at 3 Euros each). Also, I give points for friendliness, which the servers at Ginger have. I look, too, at the ambiance, and Ginger’s retro, disco, lounge, intimate vibe makes one feel at home. You can smoke inside Ginger, which some will not like.

Ginger is right in the heart of the Gothic just a couple streets off the tourist drag. Forget the Irish Bar and treat yourself to something ‘good’ at Ginger.
