Isolated and adrift, an island is, as Charles Darwin put it, “a little world within itself.” Island life evolves differently than it would on the mainland. Those confined to a continent can’t resist the romantic lure of an island’s unending coastline, crossroads of cultures, and independent spirit. Historically, islands have been places of escape, exile, and enigma, but no matter where you live, there’s bound to be one nearby.

Trazzler, one of the web’s newest travel sites, is offering a contest to send a writer to Hawaii with a companion along with a contract to write 20 Trazzler trips.  To enter the contest, all you need to do is write a 65-100 word trip that captures the spirit of the theme “island.”

  • People’s Choice Grand Prize—a week-long trip for two to Hawaii (including airfare and hotel) valued at $7,000
  • Editors’ Choice Grand Prize—a contract to write 20 Trazzler Trips and a week-long trip for one to Hawaii (including airfare and hotel) valued at $6,000
  • Ten Editors’ Choice Runners-Up Prizes—a contract for $250 to write ten Trazzler trips

The submission deadline is December 7, 2009, 11:59 am EST.  Be sure to click the “Hawaii Island Contest Entry” checkbox at the bottom of the final trip submission page when you submit your trip.
