Thanksgiving in Hawaii means warm weather but also warm holiday fun. The Friday following Thanksgiving is not just Black Friday for shoppers, but also is the evening of the Waikiki Holiday Parade. The parade features local bands, marching bands from the mainland, Pearl Harbor Survivors, service bands, military units, local officials, dignitaries and entertainers. It begins at 7 pm from Fort DeRussy and heads down Kalakaua Avenue to Kapiolani Park.

The parade is a real treat for both visitors and locals to see Hawaii’s and the mainland’s high school bands performing and marching.  These bands fundraise for months in order to make the “trip of a lifetime” to Hawaii for this great parade.  Several mainland bands are coming this year, and dozens of bands are excitedly planning their trip for the 70th Anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attacks in 2011.  Since 1998, the Waikiki Holiday Parade has honored Pearl Harbor survivors and commemorated the anniversary of the attacks.
