Ne-Yo comes Home to Vegas

Vegas native, NE-YO, returns to his hometown to perform at the Pearl at the Palms.  The Grammy-award winner graduated from the Las Vegas Academy of Performing and Visual Arts and quickly became a national sensation.  His 2006 debut album In My Own Words hit #1 on the Billboard 200, showcased a romantic songwriter who combined classic story-telling songs with a modern R&B sound.  His next album, Because of You (2007), also peaked at #1 on the Billboard 200 and won Best Contemporary R&B Album at the 2007 Grammy Awards.

With Ne-Yo’s third disc The Year of the Gentleman, he harkens back to the days of the Rat Pack with lyrical, sensuous songs written over the course of travels through Europe. “For me, the sharpness of Sammy and Sinatra is the kind of style I strive for in clothes and music,”  says Ne Yo.  “Year of the Gentleman is named in honor of those guys.”

Ne-Yo’s music has an eternal sound that crosses age boundaries, reminiscent of late-sixties songs like “Heard it through the Grapevine,” and “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay.” The beautiful single “So You Can Cry” was one of the first songs Ne-Yo recorded for the project. Opening with an enchanting guitar resembling soft rain, “So You Can Cry” is a heartbreaking tune about a runaway girlfriend.

Ne-Yo also continues to write for other artists including Rihanna (“Good Girl Gone Bad”), Janet Jackson (“Rock With U”) and Beyonce (“Flaws & All”). HIs new single “Never Knew I Needed” was written for the upcoming Disney Animated Picture “The Princess and the Frog” and he is working on a new movie “Battle L.A.”
