Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation presents Sweeney Todd the Musical
This November catch a fantastic stage production of Sweeney Todd the Musical by the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation. Now on its sixteenth year as Hong Kong’s premier youth performing arts organization, HKYAF is proud to present their annual production adapted and directed by Lindsey McAlister (Artistic Director of Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation), with musical director Scott Gibson and choreographer Jun Mabaquiao.
I’ve spent the last three months rehearsing for the part of the ‘Beggar Woman’ in this production and I am very excited for everyone to see it. After holding open auditions with more than 800 eager artists, 65 of Hong Kong’s most talented young dancers, singers and actors were chosen to make this show come to life. It is definitely a spectacular you must not miss out on.
‘Sweeney Todd’ is based on the 19th century legend of Sweeney Todd and the hit Broadway musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
Sweeney Todd a.k.a Benjamin Barker returns to London after being sent away by Judge Turpin with the help of a sailor, Anthony Hope. He opens a barber shop above Mrs. Lovett’s Meat Pie Shop where she sells “the worst pies in London.” With the help of Mrs. Lovett, Todd tries to rid of all the people who have ever done him wrong and hopes to be reunited with his wife Lucy and his daughter Joanna, who is now Judge Turpin’s ward…
