The Sweetest Bakery in L.A.

Mouth-watering… perfectly whipped icing… real fruit… chocolaty fudge… all of which could be used to describe the sweets at Sweet Lady Jane Bakery on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles (map).

I first saw Sweet Lady Jane Bakery on Dr. Phil, and decided to try it out myself the next time I was in Los Angeles.  From the first bite, I was addicted.  From that moment on, every time I’m in the area, I have to stop by the small shop.  When I was in L.A. for the marathon, I stopped by Sweet Lady Jane’s the night before the race to have some incentive to finish.  Incentive it was!  Just thinking about the Triple Berry Shortcake and Almond Rocca cake slices that were waiting for me in the hotel room definitely helped me through the tough moments!

The last time I was on Melrose, my mom and I decided to have lunch at the bakery, and take the cake to go.  I had a Gruyère cheese croissant sandwich and it turns out the cake at Sweet Lady Jane has some competition!  The croissant melted in my mouth.  My mom enjoyed the tuna salad on croissant and agreed.

Although the cost of the slices of cake are a bit expensive ($7.50 each), it’s definitely worth the occasional treat!  My favorites are the Almond Rocca and Triple Berry Shortcake, but the Raspberry Lemon is tasty as well.  There are many other delicious choices, so it wouldn’t be hard to find something for your sweet tooth!

Besides cake, Sweet Lady Jane Bakery also makes cupcakes, pies, cookies, brownies, biscotti, and more.

Sweet Lady Jane Bakery is open Monday – Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
