Sydney Sees Snow at Museum of Contemporary Art

Who says Sydneysiders can’t walk in a winter wonderland? The Museum of Contemporary Art will get festive on Saturday, when its front lawn will become a real life snowscape. snowflake

The fun project is called Primavera 2009: Snowfield, and it’s the work of Sydney artist Michaela Gleave. What a lovely break from the snooty and pretentious art exhibitions we so often see! Michaela hopes her piece will encourage onlookers to reconsider their relationship with the natural environment, but I predict most will simply lap up the novelty of snow in the city! Best of all, seeing the Sydney snowstorm is completely free!

The event coincides with the MCA’s 18th birthday. But rather than cake, the museum will keep with the icy theme and give away free snow cones to celebrate the milestone.
