Remembrance Day Poppies Invade Edinburgh

Edinburgh, like many cities across the UK, are currently invaded by red poppies – a cute flower, indeed, but if you’re visiting you might be wondering what all the fuss is about?

The poppy campaign, now somewhat of a cultural icon, is the result of an annual funding drive by The Royal British Legion for Remembrance Day, a holiday to signify and acknowledge those who lost their lives in WWI and WWII.  Remembrance day is today, November 11th, and a two minute silence is held at 11AM on November 11th.

So, when you’re walking by the massive poppy displays in Princes Street Gardens or at the Omni Centre, spare some change and get a poppy to show your support.
