Bike, Kayak and Horseback at Tempe Beach Park
If you have had the privilege of walking or running in any 5 or 10k event for a Phoenix non-profit, you most likely have been to Tempe Beach Park. This 25 acre park has been Tempe’s central park since the 1920′s and nearly every weekend hosts a fundraiser, concert or community festival.

But don’t wait for an event to visit this great park! The 2.5-mile lake has wide concrete paths on each side of the lake perfect for walking, jogging or biking. Rent a bike at nearby Tempe bicycle and explore the many bike trails throughout the park and nearby Papago Park.
If you’re more adventurous consider taking a kayak class through the City of Tempe and get in great shape. To see the sights from a different angle, go horseback riding with Papago stables. An hour guided tour is $25 per person. A half hour ride for little buckaroos is only $15 for each child.
Described by the Arizona Game and Fish Department as “fat and happy” thirteen varieties of fish such as trout, bass, catfish and sunfish can be found at Tempe Town Lake. A general fishing license for an Arizona resident costs $24. For more information visit their site.
For a special event, consider renting the Rio Lago, a 35’ catamaran at Tempe Beach Marina.
Open in the spring and summer, Splash Playground is a free water park for kids to cool off.
As you can see, the possibilities are endless and let’s face it, wide open spaces are hard to come by. Whatever your preference, everyone in your family will find an activity to enjoy at Tempe Beach Park.

I want to do this so bad! All of it. The horseback ride, the kayak class, and I bike around here frequently. But not frequently enough. It’s a great place for a date, btw. Thanks for the reminder.
Thanks Jackie.
It’s a great park with a lot of activities for everyone.
