Sydney Parkside Stay at Oaks Hyde Park Plaza
On Thursday night my husband I treated ourselves again to a night in the city before retiring to the Oaks Hyde Park Plaza.
The location was perfect, a short walk from The Metro Theatre where we took in a show, and Museum train station where I arrived. When you plan on leaving the car at home, that close proximity to public transport is a real plus. I’m sure if we’d paid for one of the fancy rooms we’d have enjoyed some gorgeous views of the park too, but it wasn’t too be this time.
Not that our digs were lacking. We were only staying overnight, but this is the kind of place I’d love to bunker down for a longer stay. While there are plenty of restaurants only a stroll away, the fully equipped kitchen gives you the option of creating your own Masterchef meal.
The big flat-screen TV was also gorgeous, and the tiny stereo an unexpected touch. But what I really love about staying in a hotel is sleeping in a king-sized bed. My sleep is always so much more blissful when I’ve got space to spread out. It also provided a comfy makeshift couch when my husband and I were watching TV late into the night.
We woke up rested, but sadly the shower didn’t give us the early morning jolt we’d hoped for. It felt a little like I was being peed on. I only hope the lack of power was due to a water saver. I could forgive it’s weakness if the hotel was simply being eco-friendly.
I was also a little disappointed to find no breakfast facilities. I suppose if I were better organised we could have bought some bacon and eggs the day before and cooked it up ourselves. Instead we ventured out to try and track some down. After half an hour of traversing Sydney’s streets we figured the breakfast at the Marriott next door was our only option. It was a bit hard to swallow the $70 meals, but at least they left us satisfied!
