100 Day Countdown to the 2010 Winter Olympics

DSC09956Today was an eventful day in Vancouver:  the 100 day countdown to the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.  As the Olympic Torch made its way travelling north from the Haida Gwaii to Whitehorse, and arriving in the Northern most destination, Old Crow,   in Vancouver,  the 14 meter tall Olympic “O’s”  were lit.  The colourful Olympic symbol was towed on a barge from the new Convention Centre out into Coal Harbor. With the majestic backdrop of the North Shore Mountains,  it shines brightly, sending a rainbow coloured  path across the Inlet,  heralding the 2010 Winter Games.  DSC09949

Also today, the Olympic Village was officially handed over to VANOC by the city of Vancouver.  This coming Saturday the last of the event tickets go on sale.  100,000 tickets are offered for Vancouver events and are availabie on-line, first come, first served.  The tickets will be delivered to buyers beginning in December. And around town preparations are being readied for various event locations for the Olympic celebrations.

In 100 days the Olympic Flame will be carried back into Vancouver for the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. DSC09942
