The film festival. I didn’t realize Edinburgh was such a big film place until I read all the posts that you wrote about it.
My favourite thing about Edinburgh was asking a Scot to polish the stairs in the Youth Hostel.
This is the story. Many years ago I hitchhiked all over the British Isles, and stayed for a few days in Edinburgh in the Youth Hostel. In those days before leaving in the morning chores had to be done. I was asked to polish the staircase. A bunch of young lads in kilts were sweeping the downstairs floor. As I had heard lots of stories about kilts and underpants. I was very curious to know if they wore something underneath their kilts. That’s why I asked them to do the stairs. I hoped that the higher they climbed and the more they stooped would reveal the secret. They did what I asked. But until today I don’t know if Scots in kilts wear knickers.
I’m dying to see Rosslyn Chapel. I’m not a Da Vinci Code fanatic, but in the movie I was stunned by how gorgeous the chapel is, and I’m dying to go explore the carvings. It looks like and incredible opportunity for photography and study.
I am a sucker for Georgian architecture, beer, and tackling new cities on my own. Edinburgh is top of my list. Would LOVE to win the book!!
Bethe, Gril with wanderlust and a limited budget
I’ve spent much time in Glasgow, but only been through Edinburgh on the way to other places. it’s the home of some of several my favorite Scots traditional musicians, so I’d like to spend time exploring the trad music scene.
