Disney’s Animal Kingdom Announces “It’s Boys!”
Walt Disney World Resort made the proud announcement that they have recently welcomed two male calves to the giraffe herd at Animal Kingdom. Bolo was born on Oct. 12, weighing 153 pounds and Bruehler, born on Oct. 5, weighing 166 pounds. The newborns stand nearly six feet tall and are expected to be as tall as 15-18 feet as adults.
Both calves and mothers appear to be doing well according to the veterinarians, though the Disney Animal Program team helped in the delivery of Bruehler. The young males began nursing soon after birth and like all little boys, are already feisty and active.
They will continue to bond with their mothers who will teach them important lessons and they will be introduced to the herd in the next weeks. These babies are the 13th and 14th giraffes born at Animal Kingdom.

- The gestation period for a giraffe is about 15 months
- Adult giraffe’s necks alone can measure up to seven feet
- Giraffe tongues can be as long as 18 inches
- Each giraffe has a unique set of skin markings, much like human fingerprints
