Eiffel Light-Show Extravaganza

Picnik collage

When you are the Eiffel Tower, celebrating your 120th birthday, the party, in my mind, should last the entire year.  That seems to be how the French feel as well and are feting their most precious resource big time.

From now until December 31, the tower is dressed in a colorful LED light show and game of spotlight effects that are being projected onto the Trocodero façade.  The light-show takes place hourly four times each evening starting at 8:00pm so youngsters can join in the fun and ending at 11:00pm.  Following the hourly sparkle dance that takes place year round, the show lasts for an additional 12 minutes of high tech fascination bathing the tower in a variety of patterns and colors that enhance, expose and pay tribute to the intricate construction of this famous monument.

Now more than ever, you have a magnificent excuse to go pick up a bottle of wine, a baguette, some cheese and whatever other goodies you deem necessary for a picnic, grab a blanket, someone or several people you love hanging with and stake out a piece of real estate in the Champ de Mars to watch this Las Vegas-y extravaganza.

Personally, I believe they save the best for last.  Once the hoopla is over, the tower goes back to doing what it does best….
