Thanksgiving Dinner, Disney-style
Several years ago our family had the thrill of being at Walt Disney World over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. We were so caught up in the wonder of the World, that I did not realize until we were back home, that we had missed our traditional Thanksgiving dinner.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved the meal we had at Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The buffet meals served here are very good featuring seasonal specialties, roasted chicken, carved beef and many kid’s favorites like macaroni ‘n’ cheese and a sundae bar. While you are enjoying your meal, Chef Mickey himself, along with several of his friends, will roam around from table to table to say “hi”.
Another favorite dining spot for a special meal is The Crystal Palace Restaurant at Main Street U.S.A. This whimsical restaurant is light and airy surrounded by Victorian elegance. Here you can enjoy Character dining with Winnie the Pooh and friends at a buffet served for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
American favorites like prime rib, rotisserie chicken and Atlantic salmon are served and desserts like red velvet cheesecake, double chocolate brownie and apple cobbler. Over at “Pooh’s Corner”, kids can enjoy their own buffet filled with chicken nuggets, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and pizza.
But if you are looking for turkey and all the trimmings, there is one spot at the Magic Kingdom theme park where you must go, The Liberty Tree Tavern located in Liberty Square. Guests at the restaurant check in at the podium and relax until the town crier summons their party. You are then escorted through what appears to be an authentic 18th-century American Inn furnished with colonial artifacts.
Liberty Tree Tavern serves traditional, American fare inspired by New England. Lunch is served ala carte, while dinner is served family-style and includes salad, roast turkey breast, smoked pork roast, carved beef, mashed potatoes, herb stuffing, seasonal vegetables, macaroni and cheese and Apple crisp with ice cream for dessert.
It is always a good idea to make advance reservations at any of the Disney restaurants, especially during the holidays. Wherever you choose to dine at Disney, I am sure you will have no trouble gobbling it up!!
