Hinduism and the Indian Subcontinent

Hinduism, the world’s oldest religion is believed to precede history and has no human founder. It is a mystical religion aimed at leading the devotee to experiencing the truth within and ultimately reaching the pinnacle of consciousness where man and God are one.

Hinduism believes that the universe undergoes endless cycles of creation, preservation and dissolution. This ties directly with the strong link between Hinduism and karma, being the law of cause and effect by which each individual creates his or her own destiny based their chosen actions throughout a lifetime.

This strong belief in reincarnation and karma is tied directly to the dietary habits of most Hindus, in that it is believed that one will receive bad karma by eating the flesh of another living mammal.

The Hindu religion is a very open religion in that it is not a requirement to participate in pilgrimages or leave the home to pay respects to the God’s. It is a very practical religion in terms of it being incorporated into the daily lives of its millions of devotees.
