We’re Smart & We Like Our Coffee

In Travel + Leisure’s 2009 report on America’s Favorite Cities, Seattle made a few impressive appearances.  We ranked #2 in Best for Food in the Cafes/Coffee Bars subcategory, and #5 in Best for People in the Intelligent subcategory.

Seattle Space Needle What does that say about the people who live here in Seattle?  Read what else visitors to our city and think, and where we scored in the People category:

  • Attractiveness – 24th
  • Friendliness – 16th
  • Intelligence – 5th
  • Athletic/Active – 5th
  • Diversity – 16th
  • Stylish – 25th

It was no surprise that with the wonderful Pike Place Market we topped the lists of cities with the best farmer’s markets.  And it was nice to score 2nd in environmental friendliness, 4th for both our skyline views and public parks.

It’s interesting that we ranked 3rd for destinations for a summer vacation, but 30th (dead last) for Thanksgiving, and winter/Christmas vacations.  Think that has anything to do with ranking 27th for weather?

It’s always fun to see how visitors rank Seattle as a destination city, whether we agree with them or not, so check out the details in the November edition of Travel + Leisure, and the in depth details online.

While you’re there, you’ll probably want to check out rankings for your favorite vacation cities.  Cities consistently scoring high were New York, New Orleans, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Chicago.

What do you think of the results?  What do you tell people when they ask why they should visit Seattle?

I’ve always being fascinated by these kind of surveys as they are always somehow pointless, but are great to get people thinking about the place where they live.

Hey MJ, you should receive an email notification with this comment. Enjoy!

  • They are totally pointless, Juan, which I think is why they’re so much fun. They get us talking, perhaps arguing, over the merits of the survey and bragging about where we live. It’s okay for us to complain about or berate our city for what it’s lacking, but nobody else better do it!

    Got the email!
