Where to Eat in Amsterdam on the Cheap

Eating on the cheap in Amsterdam is easy because there are lots of affordable cafés and restaurants. Eat here, and you can spend your daily budget on other things.

Suggestions for places to grab a cheap and healthy lunch:

BAZAR, Albert Cuypstraat 182
Authentic slice of Middle East, located in a former church, Arab pop sounds sets your fingers drumming.

LUNCHCAFE WINKEL, Noordermarkt 43
Popular rendez-vous when market is in full swing, always attracts a crowd.

‘t NIEUWE CAFE, Eggerstraat 8
Next to Nieuwe kerk (new church). Popular with shoppers, good lunches, great pancakes.

LA TRAVIATA, Reguliersbreestraat 43
La Traviata sounds Italian enough, but I am not sure if this name is the best choice for an Italian pizeria. La Traviata is an opera by Guissepe Verdi and means ‘The Fallen one’.
Location is very close to Leidseplein, Amsterdam’s party centre. This means that the pizzeria is quite touristy. Order wine or beer because soft drinks are definitely overpriced.

CAFE LOETJE, Johannes Vermeerstraat 52
Eetcafe with menu chalked on a big board. The tastiest ossenhaas biefstuk (filet of steak) in town served with crispy frites. (french fries). The meat is so tender that you can cut it with a spoon. In summer the large patio is the best place to sit. Vegetarians have a hard time as choice for them is limited.

LA PLACE, Vroom and Dreesman’s lunch cafe, Rokin 160
Located near Kalverstraat, the main shopping street. Pop in for fresh bread, huge wedges of freshly baked pizza and sandwich style baguettes. Best cheap eat in this expensive area.
