Smashing Pumpkins at Boston’s Franklin Park Zoo

The annual “Zoo Howl” at Boston’s Franklin Park Zoo (1 Franklin Park Rd., Boston, 617-541-LION) (Map) is one the zoo’s most anticipated yearly happenings. There will be special enrichment toys  in the animal’s cages on this day – and watching the animals play -and then demolish-their pumpkins is the highly entertaining.FPZ cotton top tamarinZooHowl - credit Christina DemetrioThis year, “Zoo Howl” will be a two-day event; from 11AM-3PM on both Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25; free with Zoo admission.

Kids are invited to come in costume. For the little ones there will be face painting, crafts, games, and animal  encounters with their favorite beasties.  Older kids can get in the spirit of the day too- there will be a just-scary enough haunted maze for them.  There will be a trick or treat trail of  snacks and goodies too.

And at the main stage there will be costume parade, a howling contest (cover your ears!), and a  DJ spinning  the kid’s favorite tunes. “Radio Disney is one of the event sponsors-”Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus, anyone?
