baroloOn May 25th 2010 Argentina will celebrate the 200 years of the revolution that opened the way to Independence. Throughout the year a big party fothe next year will be prepared.

The emblematic lighthouse located at the top of the tower of the Palacio Barolo was chosen as one of the symbols to celebrate the commemoration of the 200 years of the May Revolution. The beacon will be put to work again on October 3 as part of the program “On the Doors of the Bicentenary”, organized by the Government of the City of Buenos Aires.

After its restoration and value enhancement project, El Faro del Bicentenario (the Bicentennial’s Beacon) will be switched-on at 8.00 pm, during a colorful show that will also feature music by the young and talented Argentine pianist Horacio Lavandera who will be playing three Beethoven’s sonatas (Moonlight Sonata, Pathetic, and Aurora), to revive three moments of Dante’s “The Divine Comedy”, in which architect Mario Palanti was inspired to design this extraordinary building: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso.

Palacio Barolo will be the support for the images related to Dante’s world that will accompany the musician along the night.

After being turned on for this first time, the beam of light will cross the skies of Buenos Aires the 25th day of each month, with a light show that will be seen from different parts of the city.
