Crossing Borders Without Leaving The Country, Nepal

There is a deep and long history rooted in the bordering nations of Nepal, which have inevitably made an impact on the nation’s cultural fabric. Since the early 1950’s, the people of Tibet have been subject to what many have labeled as a genocide, whereby the Chinese Government have targeted the Tibetan people for elimination in hopes of gaining the Tibetan land for themselves. As a result of this genocidal history, many Tibetan people have been fleeing their homeland in a slow trickle, filtering into the neighboring nations such as Nepal, India and other international nations.

As a direct result of this cross border immigration, Nepal has gained an incredible amount of Tibetan refugees, many of which are elderly, who have come to live in the various refugee camps scattered throughout the country. With them, the Nepali people have brought Tibetan Buddhism, precious stones such as Turquoise, and an insatiable thirst for life that continues on despite their strife.
