Tropical Storm Ondoy (Ketsana) Floods Manila
A month’s worth of rain fell on the Philippines in 12 hours yesterday. The rain was brought in by Tropical Storm Ondoy (international code name Ketsana).
Manila and the surrounding areas are just overwhelmed! Rivers are overflowing, and many people have become stranded on the roofs of their homes.
Though parts of Manila are under water every time there’s a tropical storm, I have never seen this degree of flooding over such a large area. This video is of the Marikina River at the height of the flood.
The good news is that the levels have subsided somewhat, but many people still need help. The Philippine Red Cross is working 24/7, and various groups are pitching in. Here’s . Please help in whatever way you can.
I know that the phone lines are clogged now, with all the people trying to make sure that their families in the Philippines are OK. I did learn from a friend that texting might be a better way to reach them.
I hope all your families are safe and sound!

Thanks for doing an entry regarding the storm.
I saw via gmatv newspaper site, that a group of people ( 7 when I first saw it last night now up to 12) have been contributing to an online interactive situation map in regards to Ondoy / Metro Manila via Google map & Google documentation. It’s pretty interesting and I hope they are able to help many people.
Best wishes to everyone involved and those there, and their friends and family.
