Take A Walk On The Wild Side, Pokhara, Nepal
Waking up this morning there was a sense of excitement in the pit of my stomach; if the sky were clear of trouble we would get our first crack at paragliding today! Once the call was made to the main flight center in Pokhara, we got our flight time of 10 am, which meant that now we were really going to be jumping feet first off a mountain top today…willingly!
After a short wait, the Blue Sky Paragliding company van pulled up, with a young Nepali man at the wheel, ready to take us to our point of take off. And so up we went, round and round the curves and turns of the mountain, Pokhara and Fewa Lake seeming smaller and smaller with each turn. One of the instructors pumping himself up with a selection of music on his Ipod, there was an air of excitement in the van as we can to a stop at what looked like a man made landing pad.
Once our yellow helmets were on tight, buckles done up, pilot and passenger attached and hearts beating out of our chests, we were ready to run and jump off this mountain top…and so we went! One by one soaring high into the clouds, chasing birds as if we belonged with them high in up the sky. The journey itself lasted 30 minutes, although in reality it was as if our feet hadn’t touched the ground all day.
What a wild way to see a spectacular side of Nepal’s outdoor playground!!
