Sydney Makes Plans for Chinese New Year Twilight Parade

The 2010 Chinese New Year Twilight Parade is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever before after the recruitment of Canadian director and performing artist Jerry Snell.

“We are very excited to have Jerry Snell onboard for our best Chinese New year Festival yet. He brings an immense amount of experience in contemporary Asian performing arts and will further develop the Twilight Parade as a world class event,” Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP said.

Mr Snell has worked as a composer, singer, choreographer, director, and circus performer. He recently set up a Circus Action International and Clowns Without Borders tour for earthquake affected cities in China’s Sichuan province.

“I am thrilled to be working on the Twilight Parade, a spectacular event which has an exciting future,” Mr Snell said.

“I hope to build on the Twilight Parade by bringing together diverse cultures and mediums like dance, theatre, pop music and multimedia, and work closely with the Chinese community in Australia.”

The City of Sydney’s 14th Chinese New Year Festival will run from 12 – 28 February 2010, ushering in the Year of the Tiger. The 2010 Twilight Parade will take place on Sunday 21st February, starting at Sydney Town Hall and ending with a fireworks display at Darling Harbour.
