What do Scots pack when they go on holiday?
What do Scots pack when they go on holiday? Well, you’d be surprised!
Apart from the requisite toiletries, underpants, and other assortment, you’ll be surprised at the findings that the Post Office Travel Money Card survey uncovered. Consider the following statistics:
- 73 percent of Scots take their own food on holiday (Marmite, anyone?)
- 52 percent of Scots take cereal on holiday
- 29 percent of Scots take food from the hotel buffet
Scots said that by taking their own food on holiday, they’ll save £38.90 per person per holiday! I think a lot of people do this to avoid the really fluctuating exchange rate of the Pound. You can actually avoid this with the travel money card which locks in your a favourable exchange rate. Do you really need to carry that jar of Marmite with you?
Question: Regardless if you’re a Scot or not – do you pack food for your holiday?

The Dutch are like the Scots, no marmite though, but coffee and ‘hagelslag’(chocolate sprinkles we sprinkle on our sandwich), and lots of other food items. Two reasons (probably): unfamilar food and higher prices in the holiday destination. I personally don’t take any food. What about you?
I don’t take any food – too much hassle – and I lived in Amsterdam for many years before moving here.
