Sunderbans Tiger Reserve, West Bengal, India

The Sunderbans Tiger Reserve and National Park in India is one of the world’s largest Delta and mangrove regions, consisting of an archipelago of some 54 islands and a plethora of flora, fauna and wildlife species, stretching across some 2,500 square km. It is here where the waters of the Ganges, Brahmaputra and the Bay of Bengal meet.

One of the most appealing attractions of India’s Sunderbans is the National Tiger Reserve and Wildlife Sanctuary, where the illusive Royal Bengal Tiger resides. Difficult to spot, as the tiger population is quite small resting at approximately 270. Along with this king of the jungle, Sunderbans is also home to spotted deer, wild pigs, monkeys, herons, kingfishers, white-bellied eagles and the Ridley Sea Turtle to mention a few.

There are many tour companies offering adventure trips into the Sunderbans, which include your mandatory permit into the grounds, a hired cruise boat as well as a local guide who will be more than willing to answer questions along the way.
