Free Dance Films at Sydney Opera House Forecourt
September is swingtastic at the Sydney Opera House, with free dance films screening this weekend.
The free dance film festival kicks off on Friday with the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers classic Swing Time. The next night you can catch West Side Story, and on Sunday it’s back to the 80s with Fame.
The evenings will be hosted by The Australian Ballet’s artistic director David McAllister, who handpicked the films himself.
‘I was so excited to be asked to choose some of my favourite dance films. The hardest decision was which ones to leave out. My final three choices were all seminal to me as I was growing up,” he explained.
The nights will feature live music and interactive dance classes, where moviegoers can learn the steps from their favourite dance films.
The pre-show entertainment kicks off at 5:30 ahead of the screening at 6:30. Guests are reminded to leave chairs, eskies, food and beverages at home. So you might want to bring a cushion to make it through the night!
