CBS News Travel Editor Names Colorado as a Surprising Spot for Fall Foliage

Last night, in Denver we had a small cold front move in. When I woke up this morning, I knew that fall was in the air. I could feel it and smell it. I love fall for so many reason and one being the gorgeous fall foliage!

Colorado Fall Foliage at its Finest!

Colorado Fall Foliage at its Finest!

I have lived in several states over the last 9 years, but none have compared to the fall foliage that Colorado has to offer and the newly named CBS News Travel Editor Peter Greenberg agrees!

In an articled entitled “Surprising Spots To See Great Fall Foliage“, he named Colorado as one of those great spots.

On his list were Northwest-Aspen, Grand Junction, Telluride and yes, Denver.

Central Colorado also has fall foliage-Denver, Colorado Springs. Visit from mid September to early October. Pikes Peak Railroad is a great way to experience the foliage without breaking a sweat. It’s a three-hour, 9-mile ride that climbs up more than 14,000 feet of Pikes Peak, so you can see first-hand how the foliage changes at a difference pace the higher the elevation.

Fall is so great here that locals celebrate “September Splendor in the Rockies” all month long with all kinds of festivities. September really is an ideal month to visit Colorado if you love the sights, sounds and feel of fall. Hotel prices are marked down from their summer and winter rates, which makes it more affordable.

One community that is known for “pulling out all the stops to let local colors shine in September” is Gunnison-Crested Butte, Colo.

A few highlights include the Fall Festival of Beers & Chili Cook-off, DjangoFest Colorado (gypsy jazz), Vinotok harvest festival, MountainAir Marathon, gallery crawls, mountain biking series, a fun run and more.

You can find out more information here.

I definitely plan on making a few scenic drives to really soak up all that Colorado has to offer in the fall, before it’s covered up by that white stuff.
