Cafe on 3 in Black Hawk, Colorado

This past weekend I had the pleasure of eating at Cafe on 3 in The Golden Mardi Gras Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado. If you are into gambling and into some good food, Black Hawk is a great weekend getaway.

It took us about 45 minutes to get there and the drive was gorgeous. I kept wanting to stop along the side of the road to take pictures of the river and rocks. It’s just beautiful. I was amazed how the casinos in Black Hawk appear out of nowhere when you drive around the corner. What a cool place.

My husband and I started off the evening with dinner at Cafe on 3. It’s located on the third floor of the casino and it is an intimate restaurant. It was nice and quiet and by eavesdropping on a few of the visitors, I could tell this was a restaurant that they visited over and over again.

As we sat down we were greeted by the very friendly staff and were immediately waited on. I started off with a glass of white wine and Todd had some Fat Tire.

We ordered the Mozzarella Half Moon appetizer and it was some of the best fried cheese I have ever had! The breading was very crisp and the cheese just melted in my mouth. I love how they serve it in the half moon shape, instead of the mozzarella sticks most of us are used to.

Here’s a picture of our appetizer after we had already dug in. I was so hungry and forgot to snap a picture. The appetizers ranged in price from about $6.99 to $11.00.

All of the entrees come with a soup and salad bar. I was very impressed by the choices of salad toppings as well as the soup. They had everything you could imagine at the salad bar: cheeses, bacon, nuts, vegetables. The lettuce was crisp and fresh. I absolutely love a good salad and they did not disappoint. I also love a good piece of bread and they had a wide variety of different breads to choose from, as well as delicious spreads.

So far, we had been there about 20 minutes and I already had a glass of wine, fried cheese, soup and salad. Up next….the entree!

Todd chose the Terriyaki Glazed Salmon. He was very pleased with his choice. The fish was flavorful and flaky. And what a presentation!

I chose the Pork Chop special with an Orange Infused Glaze. The chop was about an inch and a half thick and it was full or flavor and very, very tender. As an added bonus, there were 3 shrimp on the side. The vegetables underneath the chop were fresh and crisp. I cleaned my plate!

The entrees ranged in price from about $13.99 to $39.99.

We were asked if we had any room for dessert and neither one of us had any room what-so-ever. The meal filled us up and everything was delicious! Next time we will definitely do some dessert! As we were leaving, we said that this was a restaurant we would consider visiting again.

Now it was time to tour the casino and win (okay we lost) some money! Neither one of us are experienced gamblers, so I can’t really compare this casino to any other one. We stayed away from the tables and just had fun at the slot machines. After we had fun with our $40 in cash that we brought, we headed home. We walked in with $40 and out with $0, but hey….it was one very fun evening.

Will we go back? You betcha! Next time we plan on staying the night and making it a fun little weekend getaway. The great thing about Black Hawk is you can go for dinner, a few slots and then come home, or you can go for an entire weekend.

Have you been to Black Hawk? If so, tell me about your favorite restaurant and casino there.
