Rio ‘the world’s best gay holiday destination’?

Rio has been named as one of the six best gay destinations in the world by gay travel site Trip Out Gay Travel.

The city has been nominated alongside Buenos Aires, Barcelona, London, Montreal and Sydney as the  Best Global Gay Destination in the site’s inaugural gay travel awards. Readers of the site can vote for their favourite city at http://www.tripoutgaytravel.com/, and the winner will be announced on November 2 to coincide with the 10th Annual Gay and Lesbian Tourism Conference, to be held in Boston.

In nominating the city, Trip Out’s team commented that ‘the bodies are hot, and the beaches are basically nightclubs with waves’. The site went on to enthuse about legendary gay and lesbian hotspots Le Boy and Le Girl, both in Copacabana, and recommended that gay travelers should head to the famous ‘gayborhood’ of Farme de Amoeda ‘Rio’s gayest street’ (their words, but they’re not far wrong).
