Street Food, Kolkata, India

Walking the streets, the smoke rises from the advent calendar like stalls tucked into the walls, with each little slot offering up a different exotic splendor yet to be discovered. There is a lassie stand offering up sweet and salty curd (yogurt) based smoothie like cold drinks, and for the more curious pallet, there is an array of tropical fruits that can be added to the dairy drink. If you are looking for something with a little more girth to it, why not the Hawka noodle stand, serving up vegetable noodles with an Indian twists along with countless other menu options.

As the sun begin to set and the streetlights flicker on one by one, the fried food stalls on wheels begin to roll along the crowded streets with delicious smells rising up from the boiling oil. People slowly being to gather around and wait for the bite sized, deep-fried battered Pakoras to cool off, while sipping on their sweet lime fizz water. Jhal moori is passed around in its newspaper packing (the puffed rice vegetable masala treat is a crowd pleaser!).

There is a menu available and ready to please even the toughest of stomach in Kolkata’s food bazaar without even having to set foot into a restaurant.
