Oahu Day Trips

The islands of Hawaii are unique in their own way. Therefore, basing yourself in one place and then exploring hither and yon each day is the key to your happy Hawaiian vacation. What follows is a sampling of the many and varied day trips available on each island. While some of these trips are special to the particular island, others can be experience anywhere if you look hard enough.

Kayaking
This paddling tour takes place on calm-reef protected waters on Kailua Bay. A trained naturalist guides kayakers along this beautiful coastal area to several close offshore islets. Along the way, you will probably see one or more Hawaiian green sea turtles. Your guide, well-versed in Hawaiian history, marine life, and our island’s geological formations, will tell stories and impart thought provoking information. Paddlers will and their safe and stable sit-on-top kayaks on one of the two-world famous beaches (Kailua or Lanikai) for some snorkeling with the tropical fish and turtles.

Surfing
When the surf’s up, locals don’t stay home, they head to the beach. Surfing captures one’s body and soul through the very power and fury of the ocean. Waikiki, with reliable waves almost all year round, is a good choice for the beginner. The “Seven Mile Miracle,” which stretches from Haleiwa to Sunset Beach on Oahu’s North Shore, contains many of the major surf spots on this big wave coast, including Rocky Point, Banzai Pipeline, Ehukai, Waimea Bay, Chun’s Reef, Laniakea, and Sunset Beach. Lessons are given throughout the island.
