Pizzeria Savonarola: Cozy Eats, Cheap Prices

I always love venturing to Padova, it gives me the excuse to go eat at my favorite pizzeria. Little did I know that the last time I ate at Pizzeria Medina, it would have been my last. When I arrived in Padova last time I was really excited, but this feeling was crushed when I found out that Pizzeria Medina is closed and will remain closed forever…at least that’s what the woman running the Tobacco Shop across the street told me.

When she saw the look of complete disappointment on my face, she was quick to offer a solution…Pizzeria Savonarola. PIzzeria Savonarola is a quaint little pizzeria on Via Savonarola in Padova. It’s just outside of the historic wall, but still considered part of the historic town center. It was easy to find and the atmosphere was cozy. One bonus point over Medina, there was outside patio seating! This is a huge bonus in the warm summer evenings.

The list of pizza was impressive, but a little on the basic side. But other things were on the menu as well, like salads and pastas, but also first and second courses that range from horse to grilled steaks. They had the typical array of beers and wines to choose from as well as soft drinks and juices if you prefer something lighter, although the wines are your typical table wine with nothing of true interest by request.

The prices are fair and the overall rating of the place, for me, is a little better than average. I’m still holding everything to the standards of Medina, but in its absence this is a very suitable substitute. If you prefer to take pizza to go, it’s not a problem, but it will cost you an extra 20 cents.
