Make a Splash at Disney’s Water Parks
With summer giving one last blast of hot air, thoughts turn to wet water parks, and thankfully, Walt Disney World Resort offers guests two — Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. A separate admission ticket for these water parks presents swimmers with loads of splashing, waves, slides and all sorts of watery delights.
Safety is a huge part of both water parks as more than 100 lifeguards are on duty to keep guests safe. Younger, inexperienced swimmers can feel more secure with the flotation devices that are offered at no extra charge. We often put our youngest traveler in a life vest at water parks, just for that extra peace of mind for them and me.
As if a water park with a storm-tossed shrimp trawler trapped on Mount Mayday and a cool, snow-bound, winter water park aren’t enough, see what else makes these parks unique:
Typhoon Lagoon
- Ketchakiddee Creek – with slides, fountains, bubble jets and a mini rippling rapids ride just for tots
- Crush ‘n’ Gusher – big thrills on this uphill water coaster, leave it to the Disney Imagineers to make water roll uphill!
- Largest wave pool in the country – with 6 ft waves every 90 seconds it is perfect for body surfing. Want to learn how to Hang Ten? A previous post discussed before and after hours surf school.
- Shark Reef – swim with live sharks and other tropical fish

Blizzard Beach
- Tike’s Peak – features slides, sand, a wading pool and more for water babies and little swimmers
- Summit Plummet – just how fast can you race down? Many guests hit 50 mph, can you go for 60?
- Toboggan Racers – challenge your family and friends to see who wins
- Human Full-Body Dryers – currently being tested, these body dryers will fit up to four people for a blast of air dried relief in three minutes
Don’t forget your sunscreen, check the tip boards at the front of the park and have some waterlogged fun!
