A member of The Leading Hotels of the World®, Terme di Saturnia Spa & Golf Resort outside of Rome, Italy is a true luxury hideaway. It’s built along foothills in the southern part of Tuscany, and its centerpiece is a pool of sulphuric water that bubbles 24 hours a day. Days can be spent poolside with frequent dips in the healing 98.6 F thermal waters, or at the resort’s spa that offers equally relaxing massages and facials as it does medical and beauty treatments. At dusk, a stroll along the Tuscan hillside or around the resort’s newly renovated 18-hole golf course before an authentic Tuscan dinner.

Rooms
Terme di Saturnia Spa & Golf Resort has 140 guest rooms, including 74 suites and two newly created Grand Suites that come with private dining areas. Accommodations are located either in the original stone building (reminiscent of a farmhouse) or in more recently constructed sections attached to the main building. Most overlook the thermal waters and foothills, and all come with modern touches such as air conditioning, mini bars, telephones, satellite TVs, Internet hook-ups and safe deposit boxes. Suites take things up a notch with more space (living room and dining areas) and marble bathrooms with separate bath tub and shower. Décor for all rooms is nature-based with hardwood floors, natural lighting and, of course, fine Italian linens.

Dining
Two on-site restaurants give guests variety in terms of food and ambiance. The informal Aqualuce serves Tuscan-inspired foods for breakfast, lunch, including a buffet, and an al fresco-styled dinner with tables that overlook the steamy thermal waters while the moon rises above a medieval castle set atop a nearby hill.

The more formal All’Acquacotta focuses its cuisine on Mediterranean foods, also with candle-lit tables. The restaurant can set up a private dinner for two inside the hotel’s gazebo.

Although both restaurants’ menus change daily and seasonally, one of Terme di Saturnia Spa & Golf Resort’s most notable dishes is the Bistecca di Chianina (special Tuscan breed) beef served at Aqualuce.

Spa
Spa treatments are based on Mediterranean traditions such as body and facial masks made from plankton that grows from the sulphuric thermal waters. Signature treatments also include the Saturnia Four Hand Massage Shower where two therapists massage the body under a shower of thermal water, and the Hydralight Treatment for the face that uses ultrasound to firm the skin. Because Terme di Saturnia Spa & Golf Resort’s thermal waters have healing properties known to relieve such illnesses as arthritis, the spa also has an extensive medical program.
