3 Art in August Events- Galleries and Exhibitions in Barcelona
The city is sleepy in August and though many shops and sites are closed for the month, these artsy attractions are open for business. Check it out:
Gallery – A Luxury Souvenir
Art is one of the best souvenirs you can buy from a city visited. If you crave a Spanish painting to grace the walls of your home then head to Esther Arias Galería and pick up one of her colorful abstract paintings. The artist is from Jaén, Spain, and has had shows all over the globe. Her paintings are large and filled with light and tranquility. www.estherarias.com
Exhibition – Fauvist Maurice de Vlaminck
This show has received mixed reviews, so head over to the Caixaforum and see for yourself. Maurice de Vlaminck was from Paris and painted in the Fauvist style beginning around 1900. He never made it big, but his paintings are no less part of the history of European art mixed in-between Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. www.fundaciolacaixa.es
Just another Museum…? No sir!
I’ve mentioned this before, but I want to remind you art-lovers that MACBA is open late all summer until midnight. If you go between 8pm and 12, the cost is just €3.50! That’s a deal! Also, Caixaforum is open late on Wednesdays (today!) until Aug 26th 09. On these late nights expect concerts and other special entertainment. www.macba.cat
