Budget friendly HK: Nightlife

Hong Kong is known for its lively nightlife but what some people fail to remember is that clubbing also means spending lots of dough, so how exactly can you have a good time partying without spending too much? If you’re a girl, then lucky you, because nobody does ladies night like we do!

Every Wednesday in Wanchai, most bars have special ladies night offers. This means no entrance fee and FREE STANDARD DRINKS for all the ladies out there. Though Wanchai is also known as the dodgy red light district of Hong Kong, it actually is a good place to go drinking especially if you’re looking for cheap fun. The place is crawling with strip bars but there are also nicer places such as Agave Bar, which offers free margaritas for ladies from 10pm till late.

On top of that you can also get scrumptious cheap food like pizza, poutine, kebabs and more from Cul-De-Sac, Ebeneezer’s Kebabs & Pizzeria, and even authentic English breakfasts from Hong Kong’s first ever 24-hour breakfast diner The Flying Pan.

If you’re a trooper and want to experience more of ladies nights, you can enjoy Lan Kwai Fong.

Popular among the locals, Beijing Club, which usually has a HKD300 entrance fee, offers FREE ENTRY for ladies and HKD220 for the gents on Wednesdays and Thursdays. There’s also Cliq just across the street, which has FREE OPEN BAR for girls and HKD200 entrance and ALL YOU CAN DRINK for guys every Thursday.

Up the road to Wyndham St. are places such as Solas, which has free 42Below vodka for ladies every Wednesday, and is more popular with the expats of the city. Or you can enjoy Drop’s ‘Manicure and Moet’ for HKD200 every Tuesday from 7pm till 10pm upon reservation.

Don’t think I’ve forgotten about the gents. Happy hours are extremely popular in Hong Kong and you can most likely find them in any and every bar or restaurant from 5pm to about 9pm in areas such as Wanchai, Central, Soho and other business districts.

FINDS in Lan Kwai Fong Tower has a 2 for 1 special offer on standard drinks from Monday to Friday at 5:30pm to 8pm. Pubs such as Bulldog’s in Tsim Sha Tsui and Lan Kwai Fong have buy two get one free, Monday to Sunday from 4pm to 8pm.

Of course there are also Gay Happy Hours in places such as Propaganda, DYMK and Volume.

A new hotspot for nightlife is the recently opened W Hotel at Elements Mall in Kowloon. Located on Kowloon side, they’re trying to attract us Hong Kong islad dwellers across the harbour, and what better way than to lure us with special offers!

  • Wine-derlust Wednesdays from 9pm to 11pm, which is HKD198 per person (plus 10% service charge) for UNLIMITED wine and cheese tasting
  • Ale-ctric Thursdays, also from 9pm to 11pm, is HKD135 (plus 10% service charge) for UNLIMITED beer from the tap and bottle with complimentary treats
  • Bollywood Fridays, which I am extremely excited to go to, from 10pm onwards. No entrance free. Chivas and champagne bottle specials with bollywood music spun by guest DJs
  • Bubbly Saturdays from 9pm till 11pm for just HKD135 per person (plus 10% service charge) for UNLIMITED Perrier-Jouet and premium champagne sampling with special delicacies.
