Quinquela Martín’s Art at La Boca

Although I think that a good number of places in La Boca neighbourhood are set up scenery for tourists who want to take a picture of this stereotype barrio to show everyone when they go back home, there is a fine little museum opposite Calle Caminito called Museo de Bellas Artes de La Boca de Artistas Argentinos “Benito Quinquela Martín” that is worth paying a visit.
A part of it is devoted to the talented painter Benito Quinquela Martín, an artist deeply identified with the barrio, showing his famous paintings of boats, ships and port workers at the riachuelo (river mouth) and more, as well as part of his original workshop in La Boca.
Another part of the exhibition gives a good insight on contemporary paintings by different artists of Buenos Aires, with an ever changing program.
There is the superb terrace where you can take pictures of the neighborhood from above as well as of the sculptures exhibited there. Admission is $1.
