A Creek runs Through it
If you aren’t familiar with the central Florida area, at first glance you might think that Shingle Creek is just a regular waterway.
Think again.
Shingle Creek is more, a lot more, because its the northernmost headwaters of the Everglades. Yes, the Everglades in south Florida. ![]()
A part of the Everglade Trail, it may be hard to believe that this small, unpretentious waterway is actually a part of something a lot larger.
The best part is that you can explore Shingle Creek on your own. The newly-opened Shingle Creek Regional Park in Kissimmee offer hiking/walking trails, as well places to launch your own kayak/canoe to push down the waterway.
If you are spending a weekend in the greater Orlando area, consider a weekend at Grande Lakes Orlando (home to JW Marriott Grande Lakes and Ritz Carlton Orlando Grande Lakes) and register for their canoe/kayak eco-tour along Shingle Creek, which is located behind the property.
