President Arroyo Meets Obama, Erap Makes a Movie
Two Philippine presidents, one current and the other a former one, are making headlines today.
President Gloria Arroyo has finally met U.S. President Barack Obama. Ms. Arroyo’s visit comes just days after her last state-of-the-nation address. The two presidents met at the White House to continue strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
Former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada, on the other hand, is busy crafting a return to his former life as a movie actor. Erap, who leveraged his popularity in the entertainment industry to gain the highest office of the land, is working on a comedy film. The project is his first since his fall from grace due to corruption charges.
I hope this means that Erap has no plans to run for office again. The new movie may mark his permanent return to to his show business roots. Then again, it could also be a way to get him into the public eye in preparation for a presidential re-run. Gah, I hope not.
