Dogma Grill – Frank Celebration of a Fast Food Classic

While everyone knows what to expect to expect from the global chains that dispense fast foods with their own take on the hamburger or hotdog, what you encounter at a local chain of fast food classics can still prove to be something more unique. In the case of Dogma Grill, a small-ish and locally operated retro-styled roadside stand along Biscayne in Miami and Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale, dispensing hot dogs in a wide variety of alternatives, there is a definite attempt to put a style along with some fresh substance into the product and the delivery.

Not to get fancy about a simple matter — although many have strong opinions about not going near fast food anymore — we did smile as we drove past the sign that said “Dogma Grill – A Frank Philosophy” for about 18 months before we finally caved in to sample the frank fare. Reports from longer residents said that Dogma delivered its own rendition of the hot dog with a genuinely healthy concern – so on a recent early afternoon we stopped off at their Miami north location to try it first-hand. We found that they do live up to their motto of “we use only the freshest ingredients” – along with preparing the requested item in classic short order time. We went with the “Classic” dog, which comes with your choice of yellow or brown mustard, relish, ketchup and chopped onions. Ordinary sounding, but memorable when the dog is fresh, the bun is poppy seed and the dressings are actually fresh.

Other items on their menu we would gladly return to try out include: the “NYC” (spicy brown mustard with sauerkrauit and/or NY style cooked onions) and the “Cali” (sliced avocado, grilled bacon, sour cream and vinaigrette) – but actually there’s a great selection to appeal to any regional preference of the hot dog — L.A. Chili Dog, Chicago, Corn Dog, Reuben, Pitchfork, Southern, and more. Along with all that, you can choose from a premium beef frank, turkey dog, or veggie dog. And if hot dogs are not to your taste at the moment, there is chicken done nicely in sandwich and fresh salads. The fresh mint lemonade or the brewed ice tea goes down well with anything here on a humid Miami summer day.
