One of Switzerland’s best luxury hotels

It is known in the travel industry that the Swiss are perfectionists when it ParkHotelWeggis_exterior_resized comes to hotels. They are some of, if not the, world’s best hoteliers – masters at creating luxury ambiance and delivering luxury service.

It should be no surprise then that one of the world’s, and certainly one of Switzerland’s, best luxury hotels is the Park Hotel Weggis in Weggis, Switzerland, about a 20-minute drive from Lucerne, with hypnotic views of the mountains and lake.

A member of Relais & Châteaux, the Park Hotel Weggis originally opened in 1875 as the Hotel Bellevue and has since kept its Art Nouveau façade while undergoing various interior renovations that give it a hip and modern look. Trendy touches include lighting designed by Philippe Starck using Italian glass and Italian-made furniture that is colorful (bright reds, golds and blues). The hotel’s Schlössli/Castle wing and main building have 43 guest rooms including the romantic Rachmaninoff Suite with a free-standing whirlpool tub in the middle of the bedroom, flat-screen TV/DVD, Bose Audio Device, wine cooler unit, private elevator access and views of the lake and mountains from a private balcony. In 2007, Park Hotel Weggis opened a new building with 10 Adara suites that come with the same amenities as the Rachmaninoff Suite, as well as a rain shower made out of green marble and enclosed in glass so you can sneak a peak at the mountains and lake.

Dining at Park Hotel Weggis includes Restaurant Sparks that specializes in light and healthy fare for lunch and dinner, including grilled tuna on Szechuan pepper risotto with sugar peas. For a gourmet dinner served on Versace-designed tableware, Restaurant Annex’s Mediterranean-Asian cuisine includes tea-smoked Barbarie duckling breast on an Asiatic vegetable salad with crunchy cannelloni. Wine lovers will appreciate that Restaurant Annex has won several Wine Spectator Awards with one of Switzerland’s most extensive wine lists. Cocktails can be sipped nightly at the Sunset Caviar Bar near the lobby.

One of the best parts of the hotel is its spa with six Asian-inspired, 750-square-foot spa cottages that come with blossom-baths (similar to a whirlpool with fresh flower petals scenting the water), sauna or steam bath, solarium, treatment tables, shower, waterbed for a nap, and wide screen TVs and CD/DVD players with surround sound. After your massage, be sure to take a dip in the spa’s outdoor, heated pool that is made out of black stone and changes colors every few minutes, and overlooks the lake and mountains.
