Wi-MAX in Atlanta

You’ve probably seen those ads for the wi-max coverage in Atlanta provided by CLEAR.

imageBet you’ve wondered how it works. I participated in a 30-day trial in which they loaned me the equipment and I got to try it out. It worked great! I downloaded photos through my email and it was very quick – possibly quicker than my old land-line broadband.

Coverage is limited to the Atlanta area and just a little OTP (includes Stockbridge, Woodstock, Alpharetta and Lawrenceville!) IMG_4223 You can view the coverage area here. Home Internet plans start at $20 a month and mobile plans start at $40. The idea of being able to just whip out the laptop wherever, doctor’s office, sandwich shop, the airport – without worrying about connecting through their wi-fi or, for Pete’s sake, paying for it, is just terrific. (And after my blog earlier this week, the airport has announced that they will offer free wi-fi next year!)
